Depression, is it a propaganda?


One of the key factors that I think contributes to inaction is watching too much TV/Media/Movies. As it is a linear medium where we have no control of the outcome, we are relegated to the position of a bystander, and as such we become passive observers.

I think watching such mediums for a extended amounts of time makes us carry the habit into real life and thus we ‘become’ people who ‘are’ helpless and not motivated to change.

It becomes imperative then, that we stop this feeling of helplessness and become empowered. Face the demons and not get washed away in the stream of negative emotions.

We all strive for something. Inability to get that thing results in an unfulfilled vacuum aka. Depression(It cannot be solved by drugging ourselves by medicines, it is most likely a propaganda by the pharmacies to earn money. Create a market where there was none, and constantly shift attention from what is needed i.e. empowering people to something else; that is making suckers)

Material things do play a part in it i.e. food, shelter etc.

But, most importantly we need social connection. Today, a culture dominated by media and constantly changing paradigms is paradoxically reducing the ways in which we can relate to people. Mental satisfaction thrives in constancy of purpose and stable environments. Firstly, what we need is a stable societal values and structure where people can identify themselves and relate to and fit in. If we base this on relationships we have to understand that people change and ultimately they also pass away, this means that we have a lot of chance of suffering. We should in the end base societal values on something absolute which people can achieve and which leads to lasting happiness.

In capitalism, when will powerlessness become power?

When will nonprofit become profit?

Power rules society, in today’s world that power would be money. If money rules; anything that negates money will be opposed by power. So, as long as people who have money are held powerful, change is difficult.

I am afraid. Fear drives me to procrastination. Fear drives me to addiction.

I will have an identity, think less and act more unconsciously.

That, I think is a key to being happy.

What is Depression?

What is depression?

It is the inability to understand and/or control the factors that drive us. It also arises from incorrect understanding and/or application of the cause and effect factors that drive us.
In short, I think it is the inability to change or inability in finding motivation to change.

I think that I lack the courage to change for my dream, so I try to remind myself this quote.


Quote from Berserk (which incidentally might be the answer to solving my dilemma)

Charolette your friends must be fascinated by your ideas.

The two types modes of behavior

1. Auto behavior: Uncontrolled

2. 'Acting Mode' or 'Doing Mode' = Controlled, aware and progressive

  • Writing down = non auto behavior = good stuff
  • You have to do this. Failure of 2 years is a testament to your inability to change.
  • Change your demeanor: Calm, collected and mindful. Always gathering feedback to continue self growth (Acting/doing mode)
  • Acting as a basis of life
  • Constant feedback on action is absolutely necessary. Failure of two years is a testament to your inability to change
  • Behavior highly skewed towards auto behavior causes retrospective reflective guilt
  • 'Acting Mode' or 'Doing Mode' is not wrong it’s all your worth
  • Retrospective reflective guilt is reactively countered by auto behavior (mostly hedonic) and thus the cycle repeats endlessly
  • 'Acting Mode' makes auto behavior worthwhile. For all your worth & deliverables are achieved in 'acting mode'
  • 'Acting Mode' influences behavior characteristics in auto behavior

Key points:

While in 'Doing Mode' in isolation, many a times the mental continuum is disturbed by testosterone. Alternatively, overwhelming sleep can also take over

Solution: Don't fuel ---'See' --- Take a break and join back

While in 'Doing Mode' in isolation, many a times there is marked fascination & attraction towards 'auto behavior' Primary Susceptibilities: Checking emails, facebook, entering a social situation, binge eating, loitering around and procrastination

Do not speak about this in public. Just 'Act' normal

What to do in case of aversion to 'breaking away from auto behavior?

Solution: Remember fear of Retrospective reflective guilt and remember your mortality.

In case of an inability to identify 'auto mode'

Solution: Cross check activity with auto behavior characteristics

What if I simply prefer auto mode?

Solution: Strengthen moral compass and develop a preference for doing

Beware of creating rational inevitabilities wherein YOU create situation of a strong susceptibility to auto behavior (e.g. going out drinking and rationalizing that I need to relax and chill)

'Doing Mode' is likely to be hampered by a lack of purpose.
Solution: Understand that human beings are irrational beings. Purpose in itself is irrational & so so what you think you should be doing.

Its just a feeling...Its JUST a feeling.... and nothing happens if you ignore it.


Auto Behavior Characteristics

It's worthwhile to note the characteristics of the auto pilot behavior (auto behavior):

  • Apathy
  • Non-Learning
  • Cyclic/Never ending
  • Accumulation of things to be done in the future e.g. buying books to read (which never get read )
  • Non commitment to anything that adds value
  • Short term thinking
  • Saying 'yes' to everything
  • Unstoppability in purpose (feels purposeful)
  • Auto behavior = feeling of very socially acceptability types behavior
